The importance of America Rising’s field research program was exemplified in the MN-08 open seat House race pitting Republican Pete Stauber against Democrat Joe Radinovich. In August, America Rising’s field researchers swept Minnesota for court records and police filings. This effort resulted in finding dozens of traffic violations that included driving with a suspended license, outstanding warrants, and a drug paraphernalia charge. The drug paraphernalia charge included a police account of him lying to the arresting officer. The research was used in hard hitting ads during the election that forced Radinovich to respond in interviews clarifying his legal problems. By October, the national Democratic party abandoned Radinovich’s campaign as he was clearly headed for a loss.
