Almost three years before Senator Marco Rubio decided to run for reelection, America Rising was already working for its clients to undermine his opponent, Patrick Murphy, during his 2014 U.S. House race. These early efforts later enabled America Rising to quickly expose Murphy’s embellishments about his credentials in 2016.
Building upon its efforts in the 2014 cycle, America Rising’s research analysts acquired public records that undermined Murphy’s claims about his role in an oil skimming business. America Rising’s research led to successful efforts to define Murphy as a serial embellisher, which cast doubt on Murphy’s credibility and permitted Rubio to enter the Senate race against a drastically weakened candidate.
America Rising’s research also highlighted Murphy’s ineffective record in Congress, including his failure to pass a single bill out of committee. Throughout the campaign, Murphy was unable to describe why he was qualified for the Senate or what he accomplished in the House of Representatives. After Rubio entered the Senate race, America Rising worked for the Rubio campaign on the research, rapid response, and tracking fronts. These efforts paid off when Rubio won reelection.
